Today is my Friday.
I had Monday off for Memorial Day.
So I had a 3 day weekend, a 2 day workweek and now I will have a 4 day weekend. I could get to liking this schedule.
Except my receptionist is gone today and Christina couldn't work (something about packing clothes for little people ..... lol!) so I'm answering phones. Let me tell you ... most sales people are RUDE! Do they really think they are going to get a sales call through to the owner of the company by being rude to the person answering the phone? So far I've had guy yell at me (his call did not go through), one lied (I'm smarter than that!), one called my boss by a nickname no one uses for him, one refused to answer any questions and demanded me to 'just put the call through' (with all the background noise I knew he was calling from a call center and put him on hold - whereby he waited exactly 37 seconds before he hung up) and one try to worm the boss's cell phone number out of me with strong arm tactics (Not!). Seriously, that last one? That was just bad. Give me his number! I have it at home! I just don't have it with me! What's your name? I'm going to tell your boss that you refused to give me the number! Just give me the blankity blank number! Over and over I answered sweetly, 'I'm sorry, I don't give out his cell phone number'. If you've ever answered phones, you can usually spot a salesman and a sales call.
So if you're reading this and you have to make cold calls like that, here's some advice. Know who you are asking for and ask for him by his correct name. Be prepared to answer some questions from the person's whose job it is to screen the calls for the boss. He's the one that pays me to prevent him from wasting his time talking to people he doesn't want to talk too. Avoid the use of honey, darling, sweetie and babe. Don't yell or demand. Be willing to state your business. You have a much better chance if you'll just be honest and tell me your name, company name, why you're calling and why you want to talk to him. If you do that, I'll write it all down and actually put it in his hand.
This public service announcement made from the girl answering the phones today.
On a follow up note: I'm packed. Well .... 99% anyways. I still need to put my CPAP machine in it's handy-dandy carrying case. And I've found that's the best place to put my phone charger. It's on my bed and just needs to be packed.
I'll pick up the rental car at 4:30, drive it home and then let the packing of the car begin.
Christina and I had a little 'lets talk about what we're doing every day' meeting so we knew what clothes to pack and in what quantity. We're packing normal clothes, beach clothes (add towels, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, beach shoes, beach toys and bug spray), go out for dinner clothes, rehersal dinner clothes, wedding clothes (add wedding clothes to go under wedding clothes, shoes, jewelry, things to make your hair look good, things to make your face look good, wedding presents, wedding cards, shoes to put on when your feet are done with the pretty shoes etc etc etc) Times 8. Then we talked about food, drinks, breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. Car snacks vs hotel snacks. Eat in at the hotel with grocery store food vs eat out at a local place food.
We're starting on the east coast of Florida and then moving to the west coast of Florida. In Sarasota we are going to go to Yoders Amish Restaurant one morning for breakfast and then on Sunday morning we are going to Skyway Jacks. I've been to Yoders once and it falls in the category of 'what's not too love'. I've heard a lot about Skyway Jacks but never been there. We're going to a couple of different beaches and I think the last stop is the Pier. I love the Pier. I have so many good memories from the Pier. Once we leave there, we'll meander our way back home hopefully with sleeping children.
